New Brunswick-ing with Tim

Things are going great so far -on our second stop, in Moncton New Brunswick. We spent a couple fun days with Dan's family in Donkin, Cape Breton and here in Moncton our former roommate Tim has been showing us as much as possible in this short visit- foggy Cape Enrage and the famous Hopewell Rocks. We had a great time frolicking in the mud by the rocks - pictures to come soon! We're heading West to Quebec this afternoon, and planning to arrive in Ottawa on Thursday. The Korea documentation is coming together too, it looks like we'll be working for a YBM-ECC school in Daejon, a small city which is about 45 minutes from Seoul (via bullet train). Overall, the trip has been great so far! We are off to the beach near Shediac now, gotta go!

Getting it all together

SO its all coming together and we're getting pretty excited about the upcoming trip -not so excited about packing everything up into that truck though!
We've each been saying our goodbyes to our favourite Halifax personalities, and had a fantastically good time with many of them on Saturday, with a big old bowl of Sangria in the Carlton St. kitchen (see photos).
As of today, our ETD for the drive is Friday, July 27th, sometime after noon...Dad has requested a detailed itinerary, and I suppose everyone else would like to know too, so here it is, so far:
Friday 27 - drive to Donkin
Sunday 29 - drive from Donkin to Moncton, to see our former roommate Timmy!
(who, p.s. may be moving to Korea too...)
Monday 30 & Tuesday 31- drive & camp in northern New Brunswick/ Quebec
Wednesday 1 - visit Quebec city, drive to Ottawa to see Emily!!
Thursday 2 - Ottawa still, perhaps, or up to Libby's cottage
Friday - Sunday - cottage
Sunday 5th/Monday 6th - drive to Georgian Bay to see Lizard!
Monday 6th/Tuesday 7th - drive to Sundridge to see Libby's family (if its ok with them)!
It gets a little fuzzy from then on, including a visit to Lloydminster to see Dan's aunt, to Calgary and Banff and Vancouver until...
Friday, August 17th - arrive in Comox, B.C. to see Libby's Bamma & Grandad
AND
hopefully, fly to Seoul from Vancouver around the 20th or 21st to start our training with a childrens' school in Ilsan (about 45 minutes from Seoul).

What we did in Korea...

  • Adopted a cocker spaniel/teddy bear mix named Sundae
  • Bought a '97 Kia Aveila, a well-loved standard with some serious key designs on the sides (which Libby is learning how to drive, courtesy of teacher Dan)
  • Coated ourselves & Soonday in mud (and loved it!) at the Daecheon Beach Mud Festival
  • Developed a serious kimbap addiction (Libby)
  • Discovered "hohta", a delicious syrup-filled pancake sold on the street
  • Enjoyed the changing colours at Gyeryongsan National Park
  • Explored a few of the sights of Seoul
  • Explored King Muryeong's Tomb in Gongju
  • Had a fabulous multi-national Christmas Eve party
  • Imbibed numerous potent long-island iced teas at Daejeon's "Lucky Strike" bar
  • Learned how to direct a Taxi in Korean
  • Learned how to read Korean...mostly
  • Ran a 10-k race (Dan), and training for more
  • Taking a pottery class (Libby)
  • Tasted deep-fried ginseng (not recommended)!
  • Visited Tim in Pohang, and ate dinner with a Japanese monk in Gyeongju
  • Watched a Daejeon Citizen's Football match
  • Went dancing at "Bubi Bubi" a slightly less sleazy Korean version of Halifax's Palace
  • Went skating and ruled the rink
  • Went swimming at Daechon Beach (while all the Koreans wore winter clothes)
